Student Life

The Honors Program at Northeastern reaches beyond the classroom. In conjunction with a number of programs and services on campus and beyond, we open doors to exciting cultural events, chances for important contributions to the Boston community and the opportunity to play a leadership role within the Honors Program.

The Honors Student Council is a member of the larger NU community of student organizations. The council sponsors programs for the larger NU campus such as their wildly popular 'Study Break' complete with coffee, donuts and music during finals. In addition, the council plays an important role at Honors events such as our annual welcome breakfast for first year students. Finally, the council is a resource for Honors staff in connecting with student views and concerns.

One of our most important connections is with the Center for University and Residence Life. The Honors Program has Living Learning Communities in both West Village F and Kennedy Hall for first year students as well as several floors in West Village C for upper class students. Co-sponsored events such as our Friday night at the AfterHours Club and faculty discussion dinners in Kennedy Hall are just two examples of recent collaborative programs.

The Office of Community Service is a setting where Honors students can connect with both programs on our campus like the Health Careers Academy, a charter high school, and programs in the larger Boston area such as Rosie's Place, a shelter for women. Students are given the chance to participate in episodic volunteer events lasting a day or less or make a long term commitment to a local organization providing services in the greater metropolitan area.

Regular programs such as our annual Honors Evening which showcases Junior/Senior Projects or the Honors Networking Event co-sponsored with Career Services are spread throughout the academic year. In addition, subsidized tickets to Boston events like the theatre and symphony, rides on the famous Boston 'duck tours', and evenings rooting for some of Boston's best sports teams are available each semester. We've been known to even get some Red Sox tickets!

There are many ways to become more active in your undergraduate years here on campus. Northeastern is a great campus in a great town and we will work with you to help take advantage of many opportunities beyond the classroom.
