Kennedy Hall
Kennedy Hall is part of the Honors Living Learning Community for first year students. Kennedy has suite-style rooms with private bathrooms and a friendly atmosphere. Each year, depending on the entering class size, Kennedy houses a number of Honors students. Upper-class Honors students serve as Resident Assistants in the residence hall and are able to answer many program-related questions. Kennedy, together with West Village F, combines to provide the residential component of the first year experience in Honors.
Kennedy Hall Updates!
The Kennedy Hall Honors community had an eventful Fall 2007 semester. New freshmen participated in official Welcome Week activities and also had opportunities to interact with each other and their Resident Assistants.
The year's in-hall programming kicked off with a September dessert social sponsored by the Honors Office and catered by Chartwells. Over 100 students joined the Kennedy Hall staff and Faculty Fellow Faviana Olivier for delicious refreshments and conversation. Professor Olivier, a member of the English Department, was able to connect with students and offer advice on academic concerns. In November of 2007, the Kennedy Hall staff arranged a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, in which residents 'feasted' on such unconventional fare as cherries, whipped cream, pretzels, and different types of bread. The idea came from a television holiday special in which the Peanuts characters came together despite a lack of supplies. The wellattended event was supported by residents, who donated some of their own food to the program.
Honors students had a well-earned break from preparing for finals during a December study break. The Honors Office provided JP Licks ice cream, and students dug into a wide variety of flavors and toppings. Sheryl Mayuski, Associate Director of the Honors Program, offered well wishes to students and talked with them about resources in the Honors Office.
As the Spring semester begins, several members of the Kennedy Hall Honors community are involved with Hall Council, and others are applying to become Resident Assistants. The Kennedy Hall staff is collaborating with West Village F on crosscampus programming in order to bring more members of the Honors community together.
