West Village F
West Village F is Northeastern's newest residence hall. In addition to 222 students, the hall also houses the Honors Program (including faculty offices and classroom space) as well as the John D. O'Bryant African American Institute. New students entering in the Fall who are enrolled in the Honors Program have the option to elect to live in the Honors Hall by indicating this preference (for Honors housing) on their housing application. Should the number of Honors students exceed the capacity of West Village F (222 students) requests will be granted in deposit date order and remaining Honors students will be housed together in Kennedy Hall (the current Honors residence hall). West Village F is an apartment style residence hall with all units having shared bedrooms (no singles), a full living room, kitchen and bathroom. Also, students living in F are still required to participate in the "meal plan," so that they remain fully connected and engaged with their peers in the freshman class.
West Village F Updates!
West Village F has had a wonderful semester! Upon moving in, residents were greeted with Residential Life and Honors team members to insure a smooth and easy transition their home away from home. After settling in, residents participated in the Honors Welcome Week, which provided opportunities to socialize with fellow students while engaging in intellectual activities, such as book discussions and community service. As the semester continued, West Village residents had the opportunity to participate in various other events, including Iron Chef West Village F, Alcohol Awareness Week, an African Dance Workshop, Time Management 101, RAD Self-Defense Class. In between classes and attending events, the hallways were always full of voices of residents chatting amongst each other, playing pool in the lounge areas.
As the semester winds down, residents are preparing for finals, completing research projects, editing papers and studying together, all with a gleam of excitement in their eyes for the winter break, just days around the corner. Next semester will continue with strong events that will challenge residents socially, intellectually, culturally and personally!

West Village F Iron Chef
Iron Chef- West Village F is a program that originally developed during a conversation with a few other resident assistants. Resident Assistants are required to do five programs a semester and during this conversation, we were all trying to come up with a few different, creative programs that would get a good number of residents out to participate. That is when one resident assistant mentioned about Iron Chef. In talking to him, this program seemed to be just what West Village F needed. It would be a great program for the residents of West Village F because as we found out early in the year, many of our residents do enjoy cooking many different dishes. After this conversation Iron Chef was in the works to be brought to West Village F.
In preparing for the event, logistics needed to be figured out as well as the best way to implement the program. After deciding on a date, the next step was to figure out how many people to invite to participate, who the judges would be, the prize and most importantly the secret ingredient. So, it was decided that teams of three would be a good size and allowed up to ten teams to enter. Teams of three allowed for a good number of residents to participate, but not an overload of chefs in the kitchen.
As for judges, professionals who are involved with the Honors Program were best suited to be judges. With this, Greg Houghton, residence director of West Village F, Sheryl Mayuski and Lauren Pouchak, both who are associate directors of the Honors Program, were all asked to be judges for the event. In inviting these professionalsto participate in the program, both residents and the professional staff were given the chance to meet and engage in conversation.
Once, all of those logistics were figured out, it was time to decide on the secret ingredient. The ingredient chosen was apples. My friend, who is an excellent cook, took the time to help decide on the ingredient as well as making a dessert and entre in the allotted time to make sure it would work. Luckily, it did! The event went off very smoothly and was a complete success. The residents had a blast participating and making their dishes. All the dishes came out amazing and tasty. Everyone did an excellent job! The winners, who each got a $25 gift certificate to The Cheesecake Factory, were Ashley Equi, Daria Caritano and Katie McEnaney.
